Yeah yeah, it’s not just because these guys have listed us as a must see event in their last 2 issues. It’s more because I honestly dig this mag’s format. As stated in their information section, “Play’s concept is pretty simple: create a compelling format to showcase the best upcoming events here in L.A.” It’s a digital flip-book that simulates the page-turn interface of a regular mag. You can even stream the band they recommend seeing. It’s a big visual ad for “these are the events you can’t miss this month”. Perfect for all of us with ADD or ADHD. Honestly, because of this mag I’m gonna take a date to LACMA on Feb 9.
Options options options… everyone loves them, and in the case of our second remix CD variety is indeed the spice of life. OK, let me break it down. There are 4 ways you can get all or some of these remixes into your ears.
1: CD - 4th On The Floor: Remixes Vol. 2…. This double CD package is ONLY available via the band’s site. It will be in select stores in ’09 but I have no news on this yet. This double disc has 26 tracks. What’s special about the CD version are the 7 exclusive tracks that won’t be found anywhere else. These exclusive tracks are from LIME, CruelBlackDove, Mark Sgarbossa, Ron Reeser & Dan Saenz and Venue. These tracks are rad and as of right now you can only get them here. In the future they will be available digitally as part of new, special and bonus releases. The CD art which was done by Ashkahn is especially fantastic.
2: Digitally - 4th On The Floor: Remixes Vol. 2 “Standard Edition“ - the Smash Hit Music Co has put together a selected playlist of 15 tracks. These remixes are all different – uptempo, downtempo, dance, and electronic. This playlist is not only one of the main features on the iTunes electronic store right now but its featured on the front pages of Amazon, Napster and Limewire among many others. Funny how how a cool little label in SF can get more advertising visibility than the shitty “bigger/ part of a major” label our last CD came out on. We all make mistakes. Count that label as one of my larger ones. Forgive me Lord, I have sinned. Right now only $7.99 at itunes
3: Digitally - 4th On The Floor: Remixes Vol. 2 “The Black Edition” – is a specific selection of 9 tracks that are sure to get you moving towards the dance floor. Most of these tracks aren’t on the regular/standard version described above. This is also released by the aforementioned Smash Hit Music Co. Circuit parties for everyone. only $7.99 at itunes
4: Vinyl – via Rong music. A 12″ with 3 tracks will be released in January. Rong = the crème de la crème of vinyl releases. Mmmmmm….
So playing at the precious little Mercury Lounge (best kept secret of SB/ Goleta) turned out to be a surprisingly fantastic night full of crazy emotions, debauchery, and the usual suspects that partake in the makings of a successful NYE (we’ll leave out the gory details of what ensued in the early morning of 2009). It took some time to figure out our stage plot given the itsy-bitsy stage, but with Fran finding his primo spot afoot my moog case blocking the fire exit, the makings for a HOT evening were set. Love was felt on stage and throughout that intimately packed room. A bed of musical energy and love encapsulated the little lounge as 2009 rolled in with flowing champagne and all sorts of goodies . Pics will be up soon as evidence of that wild night (including a hot kiss on Q’s lips by an avid fan). My highlight, however, was listening to Nelly in Rob’s veggie-converted Mercedes while eating blackberries minutes before the show. How random was that? Yet quite enjoyable I have to say….
The beauty of the sextet is the 6 different beautiful personalities of which the outfit is comprised.
Happy 2009!!! I know this little sextet is excited for the year!
Fantastic night! Thanks to all the beautiful people who made our New Year’s show at the Mercury Lounge. Dawn, you have a wonderful place up there in Goleta. Let’s do it again! – robert james
