The Air Show at the Hollywood Bowl
Yeah this post is a bit late but at least it’s up. Last sunday night we got some pretty tight seats comped to us by all the great people at Astralwerks. i mean, come on, the hollywood bowl on a beautiful night in la in a great box near the stage (thanx everyone!). Anyway, it was actually our first night out as a band in quite a while. Unfortunately i dont have any picutres of this night but i wish i did cos it was so damn funny. Air was great – they played with an orchestra – to be honest with you i missed the opening acts but i heard they were great too. the one Stereolab song i heard sounded good. Hahahha the funny stuff was the after party at the bowl. This party rocked – free champagne is always a good thing. people dont drink enough champagne. remember “if you say no to champagne you say no to life” (do you know where that quote is from – if you do – i will personally call you to tell you how much i love you.) Ok, the after party – i think trent reznor was there but i didnt see him – i loved that “fragile” record he made a few years ago – drum sounds he got were amazing(this album was overlooked by way too many). Angela and Chris thought they saw chris robinson there but it was just his body double. It was hilarious to see everyone in the band mixing it up. I wish i had pictures!!!….
i found some an old pictures of my bass cabinet (a 70′s ampeg 8-10) and it made me laugh to think about its long hard road to the top. first off, for those who don’t know the 8-10 in the name means 8 ten inch speakers. the speakers in my cab are dusty and worn but they better than any other cab i have ever played thru. it’s a classic man. i should point out that at some point i had decided to paint the cabinet white (dont ask why but i did). anyway the first picture was take about 2 years ago. at that point we were just starting to record songs for the record and i wasnt using it at all. it was a tv stand in my apartment.
i decided to step it up as a piece of furniture and had a blue plexiglass top cut for it. there, the cab saw plenty of action as a coffee table and was frequently praised and admired. i must say this was one of my better ideas – as a table this cab was pretty awesome. the third picture is how it looks today and my oh my does it look smooth. once we finished recording the record and i knew its days as a coffee table were numbered i decided to give it the proverbial los angeles face lift. took it to my friends furniture shop (thanx frank) and this guy worked some serious magic on it. he stripped the whole thing down and put a great finish on it with a thick coat of lacquer.
i have better pics of it (the cool ones of when it was actually getting refinished) but i think i lost them. anyway, there she is in her final resting place in the studio. the fish that is on top of my set up is a pinata that i bought from some store i drive by on the way to practice. i think its nemo.

well the show/glorified rehearsal started out like it wasnt going to happen at all. rob had some sort of stomach flu and was puking when we tried to run through the songs around 8pm. needless to say we were very close to calling all of our friends and telling them the show was off. tough shit though — by the time we thought of that bright idea it was too late. rob went home and tried to puke some more while we all just
for it being our first time in front of people i think it went pretty well. we definitely have some things to work on but it sounded pretty good. the vibe was all right – there was drinking on the roof and a party in the loft – can’t be beat chris jones our manager even made it down – good to see that guy out late. my friend todd brought his dog down so tony had his girlfriend there. i remember passing around a bottle of tequila at the end of the night. thanx to chris carter for getting the word out – he did a great promo job.
